How to Blossom Healthy Children!

Spring has sprung and the flowers are now in full bloom bringing with them a natural sense of cheerfulness to all things around them.  For the most part, that may be the extent of what we “see” in these vibrant and fragrant wonders of nature.  But what if we took a leaf out of that book?   Would we discover the secret to happy and healthy children?

A Child Who Owns His Own Spirit, Hears His Own Heart, Makes Good Decisions:  In his book “Free Thyself”, Dr. Edward Bach told a tale of two scenarios.  A child decides that she wants to paint a picture of a house in time for her mother’s birthday.  The first scenario illustrates the enthusiasm and freedom that the child displays when given the space to interpret her own thoughts:  Every detail, every stroke, is painted with conviction and love for her mother.   Dr. Bach explains; “Even if it looks like a hay stack, it is the most perfect house that has ever been painted; it is a success because the little artist has put her whole heart and soul, her whole being into the doing of it.

The other scenario illustrated the same child doing the same thing but someone coming along and advising the child on what to do every step of the way.  While the final product looked like an actual house, it was an interpretation of another person’s thoughts.  The essence of this picture was an interruption of the child’s own ideas, spirit, emotions and expression, which Dr. Bach believed to be the core implant of doubt, fear or indifference.  As in any natural health profession, interference with the flow of nature and the body’s natural ability to heal itself is where the root of support should take place.

A Child Whose Body Is In Alignment, Heals The Way It Was Meant To, Performs The Way It Was Designed To:  Children are born perfect.  The “innate intelligence” in them know what to do, when to do it, what to form and how to form it.  This gives their bodies the know-how it needs to grow, learn, develop and heal.  Just as in Dr. Bach’s example,  Dr. Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic worked on people at the root of their dis-ease.  He believed that there was a vast difference between adjusting the cause as opposed to treating effects.  Symptoms (or effects) were a byproduct of a deeper condition (aka: interruption) so by following the symptom to its root (or cause) then the body’s inborn innate intelligence and ability (or know-how) to heal on its own is keenly developed.

A Child Who Eats Well, Learns Well, Is Well:  Likewise with your child’s food intake there is yet another layer to what promotes health rather than dis-ease.  Today the food aisles are lined with processed, refined, fast foods that make it so easy for parents to take what they think will save valuable time due to a daily schedule filled with work, school, homework, chores and a small window to prep dinner.  Pop the food in the microwave and you have a meal in a minute.  In fact, get the kids to do it and that’s even more convenient!

But is it really that much more convenient when their health is being compromised?  When you look at how many children have allergies today (and it’s growing by an alarming rate – why?), challenges in learning or with behavior and focus, digestive issues, weight issues and even serious things like diabetes and high cholesterol, this now becomes a serious problem that can cost a family a lot more time and money!  It is so important for children to have a well-founded (and diverse) food palette.  Meaning that you introduce nutritious foods from when they are born.  Even if you don’t eat it, there is a GREAT chance they will!  They have no reference point of what “tastes good” or “tastes bad”.  In fact, that is all relative to what and how you present it!  It is so important to widen their palette of the “good stuff” when they are young so you don’t have to struggle to get them to eat it later on in life when their health becomes compromised.  There are many creative ways to get nutrition into your kids without fighting with them or struggling and one day they will thank you for the investment that you make in their health.

Much like the flowers in nature knowing exactly what to do and when to do it, Dr. Bach’s painter scenarios, chiropractic’s “root cause” theory or your child’s food palette repertoire, all of these things are meant to support a child’s growing body giving every developmental stage the power to manifest in itself the ultimate gift of nature: Self Healing.
